<p>This week Marlin Klingensmith and Vince Scavo discuss the book of Psalms to see how the Psalms are applicable to us today.</p>
<p>Running time: 40:23</p>
<p><a href="http://milligantown.org/audio/mts0053.mp3">Click here for 53: Intro to the Book of Psalms</a></p>
<p>Program notes: The following are quoted in this discussion.</p>
<p><strong>Psalm 23</strong></p>
<blockquote><p>1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.<br />
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures.<br />
He leads me beside still waters.<br />
3 He restores my soul.<br />
He leads me in paths of righteousness<br />
for his name’s sake.</p>
<p>4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,<br />
I will fear no evil,<br />
for you are with me;<br />
your rod and your staff,<br />
they comfort me.</p>
<p>5 You prepare a table before me<br />
in the presence of my enemies;<br />
you anoint my head with oil;<br />
my cup overflows.<br />
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me<br />
all the days of my life,<br />
and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD<br />
forever.</p></blockquote>
<p><strong>Psalm 73:1-17</strong></p>
<blockquote><p>1 Truly God is good to Israel,<br />
to those who are pure in heart.<br />
2 But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled,<br />
my steps had nearly slipped.<br />
3 For I was envious of the arrogant<br />
when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.</p>
<p>4 For they have no pangs until death;<br />
their bodies are fat and sleek.<br />
5 They are not in trouble as others are;<br />
they are not stricken like the rest of mankind.<br />
6 Therefore pride is their necklace;<br />
violence covers them as a garment.<br />
7 Their eyes swell out through fatness;<br />
their hearts overflow with follies.<br />
8 They scoff and speak with malice;<br />
loftily they threaten oppression.<br />
9 They set their mouths against the heavens,<br />
and their tongue struts through the earth.<br />
10 Therefore his people turn back to them,<br />
and find no fault in them.<br />
11 And they say, &#8220;How can God know?<br />
Is there knowledge in the Most High?&#8221;<br />
12 Behold, these are the wicked;<br />
always at ease, they increase in riches.<br />
13 All in vain have I kept my heart clean<br />
and washed my hands in innocence.<br />
14 For all the day long I have been stricken<br />
and rebuked every morning.<br />
15 If I had said, &#8220;I will speak thus,&#8221;<br />
I would have betrayed the generation of your children.</p>
<p>16 But when I thought how to understand this,<br />
it seemed to me a wearisome task,<br />
17 until I went into the sanctuary of God;<br />
then I discerned their end.</p></blockquote>
<p><strong>Psalm 22:1-2</strong></p>
<blockquote><p>1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?<br />
Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?<br />
2 O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer,<br />
and by night, but I find no rest.</p></blockquote>
<p><strong>Psalm 119:8-11</strong></p>
<blockquote><p>9 How can a young man keep his way pure?<br />
By guarding it according to your word.<br />
10 With my whole heart I seek you;<br />
let me not wander from your commandments!<br />
11 I have stored up your word in my heart,<br />
that I might not sin against you.</p></blockquote>
<p><strong>Psalm 2:10-12</strong></p>
<blockquote><p>10 Now therefore, O kings, be wise;<br />
be warned, O rulers of the earth.<br />
11 Serve the LORD with fear,<br />
and rejoice with trembling.<br />
12 Kiss the Son,<br />
lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,<br />
for his wrath is quickly kindled.<br />
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.</p></blockquote>
<p><strong>Psalm 150</strong></p>
<blockquote><p>1 Praise the LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary;<br />
praise him in his mighty heavens!<br />
2 Praise him for his mighty deeds;<br />
praise him according to his excellent greatness!</p>
<p>3 Praise him with trumpet sound;<br />
praise him with lute and harp!<br />
4 Praise him with tambourine and dance;<br />
praise him with strings and pipe!<br />
5 Praise him with sounding cymbals;<br />
praise him with loud clashing cymbals!<br />
6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD!<br />
Praise the LORD!</p></blockquote>
<p><strong>Psalm 100:1-2</strong></p>
<blockquote><p>1 Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth!<br />
2 Serve the LORD with gladness!<br />
Come into his presence with singing!</p></blockquote>
